Tindie Blog | CAT-CAT Walker Soldering Kit

PCB Soldering kits come in all shapes and sizes, but few allow you to make a walking–or at least sliding–electronic device in an hour or so. The CAT-CAT Walker kit by Patchr does just that, featuring four bendable legs and a vibration motor for movement, plus an LED to add a bit of style.

When turned on via the included switch, the CAT-CAT scoots around the floor like a brushbot, and its movement can be modified by further shaping its appendages. The device is powered by a coin cell battery that you’ll need to provide, which is held on by an included retainer clip.

It’s quite a stylish little PCB design, manufactured with a white solder mask, and includes various decorations to give it a fun robotic/sci-fi look. While the reference may or may not be immediately apparent, the CAT-CAT designation is a fun play on Star Wars’ doglike AT-AT walkers.

The kit is intended to be assembled by those who have some experience with soldering. Fantastic assembly directions are available; however, those that are relatively new may be able to follow along as well. Given the upcoming holiday season, it looks like a fantastic stocking stuffer for any technically curious people in your orbit!
